Dr Nicole Bates – Osteopath

Dr Nicole Bates has been a practising osteopath since January 2008. Having graduated the previous year from RMIT University, Melbourne, she took her first associate position in Cairns, QLD. Being the only female osteopath and one of only 2 osteopaths in a town of 130,000, Nicole was exposed to a diverse cross section of the community and gained strong structural foundations on which to build her skills over the following years.

From Cairns, to Perth, to Townsville, to Canberra, Coffs Harbour, back to Canberra and now finally back to Townsville, Nicole has had many experiences which have shaped her practice of Osteopathy to what it is today. From working along side and learning from amazing osteopaths, to looking after other practices in a locum capacity, she has finally settled back up north (sunshine, hot weather and the ability to work bare footed was always destined to win out) and is happy to be the owner of Townsville Osteopathy.

Whilst having a strong structural foundation to treatment, Nicole has also continued professional development in cranial, paediatric and Biodynamic fields of osteopathy. Her treatments vary for each and every patient. No two bodies are the same, so why should their treatments be the same?

Nicole is a very direct, some may say blunt, practitioner, but this stems from seeing too many people not given the correct treatment, or not getting to the root cause of the problem. An osteopaths aim is always to find and restore the health of a patient, then from there the patients own self healing and self regulatory mechanisms will be better placed to continue one’s healing. But a good practitioner knows when they are not the right one for the job. So even if Nicole is unable to help, she prides herself on getting her patients on the right track with help from other medical professionals.

In her down time Nicole enjoys the great outdoors, reading, cooking, good food and wine with friends and will always have music on in the background.

Dr Liam McCambridge – Osteopath

Liam’s interest in Osteopathy started from early in high-school, where he was looking for a treatment approach to help manage his sports injuries while playing junior tennis. This interest grew quickly into a passion whilst studying osteopathy at Victoria University in Melbourne, and this passion started a career in 2013. Working in and around the suburban sprawl of Melbourne, Liam realised that, while Melbourne had been a great city to start his osteopathic development, that he was destined to leave the city he grew up in for a new start (with hopefully some warmer and more stable weather). Having travelled the east coast numerous times, Liam fell in love with tropical Queensland, and decided the chance to move to Townsville was too good an opportunity for him and his young family to pass up.

Liam takes a mainly structural approach to treatments, using a broad range osteopathic techniques, functional breathing, kinesiology taping and rehabilitation to help provide the best possible tailored care for each individual patient. Having worked in both osteopathic and multi-disciplinary settings, he has a great understanding that osteopathy is not just a singular profession, but an important cog in the greater health system. As such, Liam prides himself on recognising when a patient may need more than osteopathic care alone, and refers accordingly to help get the best health outcomes for each patient.

Liam has clinical experience treating patients ranging from children to adults, with conditions including postural pain, neck and back pain, headaches, migraines, arthritis, tendonitis and jaw pain.He has also treated patients with sports injuries and pregnancy-related pain–areas in which he has a particular interest.

Outside of work, Liam loves his golf, tennis, bushwalking and camping, watching movies, listening to music, cooking and spending time with his young family and friends. Liam is also a fan of many sports, and while he will miss his beloved Carlton in the AFL, he knows his NRL. Having been converted to the Broncos while spending time in Brisbane at high school, he is looking forward to watching the show down against the Cowboys in Townsville later this year.
